We have changed some of our activities because of Coronavirus (COVID-19), but St Oswald's is still here as a church to serve our congregation and our community at large.
We are holding services in church and some are also livestreamed on Zoom. For the latest information about services please see our calendar.
8.30am on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month
Spoken Communion service (no hymns) of approximately 45 minutes using the traditional words of the Book of Common Prayer alongside readings and prayers.
8.30am on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month
Spoken service of Morning Prayer (no hymns) led by trained members of the congregation. Lasts approximately 45 minutes and uses the contemporary words of Common Worship with readings and prayers.
10.30am on the 1st Sunday of the month
Contemporary Common Worship Morning Prayer service with hymns, worship songs, prayers, readings and a sermon. Normally a Kids' Club which meets at the same time. The service is usually followed by refreshments.
10.30am on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month
Contemporary Common Worship Communion service with hymns, worship songs, prayers, readings and a sermon. Normally a Kids' Club which starts at the same time, with the children joining the adults for Communion. Refreshments usually follow the service, which lasts about an hour.
10.30am on the 3rd Sunday of the month
Worship for all
All-age contemporary service with hymns, worship songs, readings, prayers, activities and/or a talk. It is led by Readers and trained members of the congregation and lasts approximately 50 minutes. It is often preceded at 9.45am by a breakfast of toast, croissants, tea/coffee and fruit juice.
10.30am on the 5th Sunday of the month
A joint Communion service is held in one of the churches in the plurality: Sowerby, Sessay, Thirkleby, Kilburn or Bagby.
6.30pm on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month
A quiet half-hour service using the traditional words of the Book of Common Prayer. There are usually readings, prayers, a sermon or reflection and two hymns.
6.30pm on the 2nd Sunday of the month
Joint service at Sowerby Methodist Church
This is sometimes a Taize-style reflective service and sometimes a service with prayers for healing.
9.30am every Wednesday
Spoken Common Worship Communion service with Bible readings and prayers. The service lasts 30-40 minutes.
12 noon normally on the 1st Friday of the month (except school holidays)
A 30 minute service in church especially for pre-school children and their carers. Songs, stories, prayers and activities. Followed by a children's lunch plus tea and coffee for carers. More information about Pram Service.
11.00am till 1.00pm in the Parochial Hall every few weeks
Crafts, games and lots of fun for all the family, followed by a Bible story, songs and a prayer activity. Then everyone has lunch together. More information about Messy Church.
